MarComm receives awards for its 150th anniversary website, Washington Post Story

A special website created for the 150th anniversary of Colorado State University and a story in The Washington Post on continued efforts to develop new COVID-19 vaccines have won honors from the Colorado Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Both nominees won the Silver Picks Award at the Colorado PRSA Awards Ceremony on October 6.

“It’s always encouraging to have external validation of the great work we do here at MarComm,” said Yolanda Bevill, vice president of marketing and communications at the university. “These are well-deserved honors for two efforts that have further enhanced CSU’s brand and reputation, and we are grateful for the recognition as well as the hard work that has gone into them.”

The University’s Marketing and Communications Division developed the special 150th anniversary website in 2019, kicking off a one-year celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of CSU. The site, created by designer / developer Dawood Suleman of the Web Services team, combined archival footage and historical footage with a collection of college lore, a true or false quiz on CSU legends and lore. , festive events and a now slip between historic and modern images of the campus.

Coverage on the site – as well as an associated SOURCE landing page designed by SOURCE editor Joe Giordano – included an in-depth review of each of the CSU colleges and CSU libraries. This series was rolled out over the academic year as a multi-tiered monthly package featured in SOURCE and led by former SOURCE editor-in-chief Kate Jeracki. Visitors to the CSU @ 150 site spent an average of 1h38 on the page, far exceeding the CSU news site average.

“The microsite’s use of visuals, from archival footage and historical footage, was impressive,” a judge said of the entry. “The same goes for interactive components, such as the quiz. “

Another judge added: “The graphics and the website were interactive which made it a great user experience. The website was a great combination of education, celebration, and sharing what lies ahead. “
