Mavericks injury status: Jalen Brunson vs. Jazz update

The Dallas Mavericks are set to face the Utah Jazz on Monday, but will they have their starting area available to play? Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson reunited over the injury report recently.

Having all the help the Mavericks can get will be important as they aim to leapfrog the Jazz in the Western Conference standings to gain home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Doncic was sidelined for the Mavericks’ 114-113 win over the Sacramento Kings on Saturday with a toe injury. Spencer Dinwiddie started in his place and did it with precision, finishing with 36 points and seven assists.

Against the Jazz, Doncic is currently listed as ‘likely’ to play. For what it’s worth, it’s rare that a player with such a designation doesn’t end up being available to play.

The same cannot be said for Brunson, who was previously ruled out against the Jazz with what was described as a bruised toe.

Similar to Dinwiddie, Brunson’s impact was instrumental in the win over the Kings as he finished with 23 points and six assists with one of those dime leading to the game-winning 3-pointer.

It remains to be seen what the Mavericks ultimately decide to do with their rosters for this game given that Dinwiddie has been crucial playing alongside Doncic throughout games, but especially as a bench unit leader.

Brunson is expected to miss his first game of the 2021-22 season, which will make Dwight Powell the team’s only player to appear in all of their games thus far.

The Mavericks should have Maxi Kleber in the roster as he was promoted to “likely” despite ankle pain. He missed the team’s previous two games.
