FILM ANALYSIS

Hanafin is one of the few athletes to become a top four-star player on both sides of the ball. When I broke down his game, Hanafin ranked as a 4.0 star player on the Irish Breakdown chart as a wide receiver and rover. That’s one thing that makes him a unique prospect. He is recruited as a wide by Notre Dame and Clemson, but Alabama recruits him as a safety/rover type player.

In fact, right now, Hanafin is rated higher on defense than on offense due to his skill rating, which I’ll get to. His advantage, however, is greater in attack, and that’s why Notre Dame recruits him as an attacking player when all is said and done.

At 6-3 and 205 pounds, Hanafin is the perfect height for the wide receiver position, he also has the length to match his height. It has a much above average catch radius as a wide. Hanafin is still learning the position of the receiver, but he attacks the ball naturally. His body control is impressive, he quickly snatches the ball in the air and he has strong hands. These traits project well towards the position of the boundary receiver.

His athleticism projects both on the court and on the slots, which adds to his versatility on offense as Hanafin can play all over the court as a wide. The BB&N star is a smooth, flowing athlete who moves effortlessly on the football pitch. His easy movement skills mask his speed, which is impressive. Hanafin has a high 4.4 caliber speed, and you can see that when he boosts it to get the upper hand on defense, and you can really see that when he’s actually on defense. As his stance/start technique and road-running ability improve, you’ll see his speed become even more impactful.

What really sets Hanafin apart is that he combines fluid athleticism and speed with exceptional agility. His quick footing, balance and agility are truly top notch. When his road technique is somewhat clean, I was blown away by how easily Hanafin was able to lower his hips and then come out of his cuts with excellent suddenness. His outing/stem needs improvement and his top-level technique needs improvement, but the athleticism is there for him to eventually become an outstanding road runner.
