Choosing the right graphics card for the game

Melbourne, Australia, July 7, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Upgrade or Build a New gaming laptop, Australia? Online tech retailer PCByte claims that choosing the right graphics card is an important consideration as it determines the quality of graphics on the laptop or gaming PC.

According to PCByte, the best GPUs are made by Nvidia and AMD. These innovative brands continue to launch products that elevate graphics to new heights. Nvidia graphics cards are widely considered to be the fastest and best, while AMD offers more economical but still very capable GPUs.

When it comes to choosing the graphics card model for a Gaming pc, naming systems can be a bit confusing. PCByte explains that for Nvidia GPUs, the first three letters represent the generation of the product, followed by the first two digits which indicate the model number (with higher numbers signifying better models), and the last two digits represent the level, therefore the 50s are low end while the 80s and over are the most elitist levels. Some models have Ti or SUPER at the end, which basically means better variants of the GPU.

When it comes to AMD graphics cards, PCByte says the model names are similar except the first two letters mean series and the build number is in the middle. Users are recommended to read reviews of specific graphics cards to compare part numbers and decide which model is best for their gaming needs.

To help create the best gaming laptop or gaming PC for Australia players, PCByte recommends knowing the favorite games and their requirements. It’s worth checking out the resolution, refresh rate, and ray tracing requirements for each individual game.

Gamers should also be aware of the power of the central processing unit (CPU) of the gaming PC or laptop. If the GPU and CPU levels do not match, the gaming experience will be hampered by poor performance and poor graphics regardless of the quality of the GPU.

Other key considerations highlighted by PCByte include required connections and ports (an often overlooked feature), as well as ensuring that the computer power supply (PSU) can support the thermal design power of the graphics card and whether the desktop enclosure has the required space.

PCByte is a one-stop-shop for all laptop and gaming PC needs. As a leading technology retailer in Australia, PCByte also stocks other daily products, including the popular Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner.

Mets’ Carlos Carrasco could return by ‘end of July’

NEW YORK– The Mets could pick up a much-needed reinforcement in their rotation by the end of the month.

That’s right, starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco (torn hamstring) was seen working the field Monday ahead of the Mets’ series with the Brewers.

Carrasco lined up a number of Grounders in front of the mound. He also trained to cover the first goal, and he looked good to do it. He seemed to be doing fine, which is a promising sign considering he’s coming out of a major hamstring problem.

According to manager Luis Rojas, Carrasco will launch a bullpen later in the week. And even if he will have to throw out a few more, if all goes well, he can then begin a rehabilitation mission.

Rojas and general manager Zack Scott reiterated that Carrasco won’t need to increase up to six innings to be activated. He will potentially only need to pitch three to four innings on his rehabilitation mission, before the Mets feel comfortable bringing him back.

As Rojas noted, Carrasco’s progress could set him up for a comeback in late July.

With the trade deadline approaching the end of July, the Mets are looking for a reliable spin starter backend.

At present, Scott and the Mets are considering Carrasco and Noah Syndergaard (Tommy John surgery), as a bonus if they get them back this season.

They will likely add another arm to the trading market, and rookie Tylor Megill has become a reliable starter.

With Carrasco and Syndergaard on the mend, the Mets rotation could get deep again by the end of the summer.

And speaking of Syndergaard, he just started playing flat court wrestling last week. The next step is for him to start getting rid of the slope in the next few weeks. The Mets expect him to return in September.

Wednesday entry

As for Wednesday’s Mets starting pitcher in the third and final game of their series with the Brewers, Rojas mentioned Robert Stock and Nick Tropeano as good candidates to get the ball.

Stock last pitched in the major leagues on June 16 for the Chicago Cubs, where he allowed the Mets five runs in four innings.

The Amazins claimed it shortly after June 22, before opting for the Triple-A Syracuse. And now Stock appears to be in line to start with their new team this week.

How Factory Records Redefined Design and Music

The art of Factory Records was that of a rediscovered culture. The music of the era-defining label, founded in 1978, has appropriated German electro, a passion for punk, the groove of funk and the drug use of disco, but its graphics have found inspiration in everything from the Bauhaus to the construction site, from Fantin-Latour to French Situationism.

A new show at the Manchester Science and Industry Museum (Using hearing protection: the early years of factory recordings) suggests that the visual vocabulary of the label was found in the decaying post-industrial streets of the city, which of course was largely, from the name of the label (although it had a Warholian inflection) to the fragments old buildings and workshop signage. But what’s even more interesting is that it has also been found all over the world. The real shock of Factory’s visual imagery was in the way the designers brought striking and brilliant images of the Modernist tradition, of Paris and Prague, Berlin and BDSM to the main street, teens and passers-by.

Led by designer Peter Saville, Factory’s visual language introduced 20th century avant-garde design into mass culture. Rather than being a top-down didactic exercise – as the British Design Council had tried to do in the post-war years – it was a bottom-up expression of pop and club culture in a city bruised, stunned by her own decline but buzzing with ideas and energy. .

The exhibition presents the first 50 creations from Factory. Each has been purposefully numbered, almost like an edition, with a poster weighing as much as a record sleeve, with a badge equaling a conceptual work of art. In this lack of hierarchy, we see a sophisticated conservative attitude that saw pop as culture rather than commerce. This was a conception not as marketing but as an attempt to create something of value beyond the transactional – the establishment of an appropriate art language and an improvement in British visual literacy.

Factory was in a unique position. One of its founders, Tony Wilson, had a well-paying job at Granada TV (its studios located right next to the Museum of Science and Industry, which Wilson helped attract here). This allowed him and his partners, Alan Erasmus and Saville, to treat it as a project rather than, necessarily, a business. The most famous example of this commitment to high design was Saville’s design for New Order’s unique 12-inch “Blue Monday” sleeve (“FAC 73”, so outside of the scope of this show). It was modeled on the shape of a floppy disk, a brilliant piece of graphic design that underscored the band’s new digital direction.

Famous, it costs more to produce than its cover price, with cutouts and a silver inner pocket. Wilson hadn’t been bothered as he was convinced he would sell hardly any copies – instead, it became the UK’s best-selling 12-inch single of all time. Factory Records managed to lose its biggest commercial success, but it created a cultural moment that has proven to be remarkably enduring, influencing fashion designers, graphic designers, architects and countless others including, but not limited to , the former head of design of Apple, Jony Ive, whose design of the iPhone is difficult to dissociate from the conscious modernism of Saville.

The designs featured here include “FAC 1”, the first factory poster from which the show takes its name – a yellow leaf with crisp graphics announcing the very sketchy Russell Club’s schedule. “FAC 2”, a cover for a vinyl sample, adopts construction site motifs for a striking image, its found line-drawing image of a worker in hard headphones contrasting with the coolness of the music. From there, the images run through Linder Sterling’s feminist concept of a menstrual hourglass (“FAC 8”, unrealized) to the indelible cover of Joy Division. Unknown pleasures (“FAC 10”), an image of a pulsar rendered as white-on-black counters. It has become one of Saville’s best-known creations, now so familiar that it has been stripped of its context and once again become a rediscovered image.

Some of the exhibits are very clearly derived from Situationist vanities. There is the sandpaper disc cover of the Durutti column – a tribute to Guy Debord’s book Briefs with a sandpaper cover designed to destroy its neighbors on the shelf. Wilson’s early designs directly adapt French texts but, more than just visual motifs, Factory borrowed from the French the 1968 critique of capitalism and the relentless rise of spectacle, of representation rather than of lived experience.

These designs could only have been produced for a record company fully aware of its position between trade and culture and not willing to succumb to commodification. One at 50 does a neat encapsulation, but “FAC 51” would have been the Haacienda, the club that spawned the baggy, drugged and ecstatic funk of the city’s next cultural incarnation as Madchester with bands such as Happy Mondays , another Factory alumnus. He is strangely absent.

Instead, the club’s original designer, Ben Kelly, created a space at the end of the show that attempts to recreate the vibe of a concert and is outfitted with found construction objects: bollards, yellow and black diagonals. , rigging, ceiling spots and industrial steel beams. It appears troublingly void and will not fill up as long as the Covid-19 restrictions are in place.

Elsewhere, Tories are trying to weave the thread of industrial Manchester into invoices, letterheads, machines, early computers and gorgeous photos of a desolate ruined city, now unrecognizable. It’s a deeply enjoyable show in a slightly surprising location (why the science?), And it highlights how Manchester designers brought the sophistication of modernist culture to clubs and record stores and remade pop like a rock. Gesamtkunstwerk.

The work embodies a profound visual overhaul that changed everything. But also, perhaps, nothing. His ideas have been ruthlessly reappropriated by an invigorated global marketing machine in everything from phones to auto ads. It has become our language.

How to run Android apps for free on Windows, Mac: Bluestacks, app

By typing in a sales report for the boss, you decide to take a much needed break.

Will it be a few laughs on TikTok? Send a snapshot to friends via Snapchat? Do you play “Clash with Clans” or “Crash Bandicoot: On the Run”?

The problem is that all of these apps are mobile and your smartphone is sitting on a charging mat. Oh, and the kids are watching videos on your iPad.

Why shouldn’t you be able to access it on the laptop or desktop computer you’re already on?

You can, in fact, run Android apps – designed for a smartphone – on your Windows PC or Mac.

Traveling in complete safety:Tips to protect your laptop, tablet and smartphone when traveling this summer

Mathematics during COVID:COVID crushed math grades. There is an application for that

In fact, there are different ways to do this, and they are also free.

Here are two of the best solutions to run millions of Android apps on your computer:

How to run Android apps on your computer with Bluestacks

The best solution is to install BlueStacks 5 for Windows PC (or Bluestacks 4 for Mac), which allows you to run Android on your personal computer.

The San Jose, California-based company says more than 2 million Android games and apps are supported on its emulator, thanks to complex software virtualization technology developed by 10 engineers over the years.

Since Android is an open operating system, BlueStacks is completely free and legal for users to download and install. It only takes up 2GB of storage once installed, not including apps you can download.

Other system specifications are just as modest, such as requiring at least 4 GB of RAM (system memory), although 8 GB or more is recommended. BlueStacks 5 may also require a download of a newer graphics card driver on an aging computer. But that’s about all.

â–º To download apps and games from Google Play Store in BlueStacks, just sign in with your Google ID (Gmail address and password) and go to it.

It might take a bit of experimentation to see how certain games should be best played on a PC or Mac. For example, if you’re used to controlling a racing game by tilting your Android phone, you might opt for a keyboard or gamepad instead.

Apps that use your smartphone’s camera, like Instagram, will of course require a computer with a webcam.

Along with Google Play Store support, BlueStacks 5 includes a Command Editor (for creating and customizing unique control options for your favorite games) and Game Center (which lets you browse games by genre, popularity and other variables).

How to run Android apps on your computer using your phone

You might not know that Windows 10 allows you to wirelessly access content on your Android smartphone and iPhone, and run them on your laptop or desktop. The only catch is that they both have to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

A second way to access Android apps and games on a Windows PC is to launch the Your Phone app, which is already built into Windows 10 (and on many Samsung Galaxy smartphones there is a Link to Windows app preinstalled, which can also work).

Davin DJ Jackson cuts the list to six schools

A Syracuse defensive line target who officially surrendered last month has narrowed his list. Class of 2022 Sumter (SC) Defensive lineman DJ Jackson reduced his roster to six on Sunday, the Orange made the cut. In addition to Syracuse, Jackson’s top six included Appalachian State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, North Carolina State, and South Carolina.

Jackson paid an official visit to Syracuse over the weekend of July 18. During the visit, Jackson got a good idea of the program and the school. It was also his first time on an airplane.

“The buildings are great,” Jackson said after the visit. “They’re very old, but inside it’s very new. It was wonderful. The people are amazing. The team is awesome. The head coach is awesome. The defensive coordinator is awesome. defensive line coach is awesome. It was an amazing experience. It was my first time on a plane. I took four planes for the first time in my life in three days. My mom and I stayed there. a good time. I didn’t really feel like a rookie (Jackson clarified that it meant he felt like a current player rather than a rookie) when I was there. It was magnificent. And the Dome. The Dome is crazy. It’s also air-conditioned. It was amazing. And their food. “

The visit made a strong impression on Jackson, who is looking to make up his mind before September.

“Honestly, they’re at the top of my list,” Jackson said. “I liked it a lot. They are at the top of my list. When I got an offer from Syracuse, I knew it would be a tough decision between them and the other schools. To be able to go to campus and talk to the coaches in No one, to the players, that really pushed him higher than he was. I can say Syracuse is in my top for sure. “

How did T. Denny Sanford get his name out of a hospital?

Sioux Valley Hospital was a pinnacle in the Sioux Empire healthcare system. That was until February 2007, when things for the small rural hospital system changed dramatically according to Zippia.

It seemed out of the blue that a hospital that had existed since 1894 (also known previously as Sioux Falls Hospital before Sioux Valley Health) had completely renamed itself.

You may have heard over the years that the reason the hospital chained its name to Sanford was because of the many generous donations the hospital received from MT Denny Sanford.

That’s a true statement, but do you know how this partnership between South Dakota’s wealthiest businessman and healthcare system came about?

According to Forbes, Denny Sanford had a bad experience when he tried to pledge $ 125 million for a new football stadium for the University of Minnesota.

After a stadium change that nearly doubled the cost, Sanford was denied naming rights unless he donated more money to the project; indignant, Mr Sanford withdrew his entire offer.

So, as a result of this experience, Sanford vowed to avoid “big bureaucratic institutions of charity” – Forbes.

It is now that the partnership between the hospital system we all know today as Sanford began to take shape.

Kelby Krabbenhoft, head of the Sioux Valley health system at the time, had heard of the deteriorating situation at the U stadium from Mr. Krabbenhoft then,

“persuaded Sanford to donate $ 16 million to a children’s hospital that Sioux Valley was building – the first new children’s hospital in the United States in a decade. Sanford got its name on the hospital. The new one. building will have 60 beds and look like a Disney Sanford then funneled $ 15 million through Sioux Valley Health to the nearby Mayo Clinic to partner around pediatric research. Krabbenhoft also helped Sanford place $ 20 million dollars with the University of South Dakota School of Medicine, which also took the name Sanford.

After these generous monetary donations, in February 2007, Sanford pledged $ 400 million to Sioux Valley Health at the time, which soon after became Sanford Health.

Since 2007, we can see that Sanford has donated on several occasions to increase Sanford’s presence throughout the community with the Sanford Pentagon, the Denny Sanford Premier Center, The Sanford House and many other charitable projects.

Through these donations that T. Denny Sanford has made over the years, he has not only enabled Sanford Health to continue its medical research, but has enabled the Sanford health care system to be nationally recognized. .

Thanks to CGI, Paul Walker could return for ‘Fast & Furious’ finale

Advances in video graphics could bring back the late Paul Walker to appear in the two-part finale of the Fast Furious franchise.

Paul Walker could return to the big screens, a decade after his death.

Fast Furious Director Justin Lin told Brazilian media CinePop he’s exploring the possibilities of bringing Walker’s character, Brian O’Connor, back for the finale.

O’Connor was the protagonist of The Fast and the Furious – the original blockbuster film that debuted 20 years ago, bringing underground street racing culture to the general public.

“Obviously, Paul and his character Brian are the soul and the heart of how we’ve moved forward. Bringing him back is something I think about every day,” Lin said. CinePop in an interview.

“As we near the end of the franchise, this is a conversation I have. I think about that possibility every day.”

Walker died in a car crash in 2013 as a passenger, while filming furious 7 – the seventh film of the Fast Furious series. His brothers Cody and Caleb Walker helped complete the film, standing in his place to capture his likeness.

Thanks to advancements in computer graphics, it’s possible to place Walker in the new movie with a process used in the so-called “deep fake” videos.

The final of the Fast Furious The franchise will be split into two parts and is currently at the start of pre-production. Fast & Furious 9 is now showing in theaters.

Do you really need a 4K monitor?

It seems like everyone is talking about 4K monitors these days, and for good reason. We’re starting to see more content available in 4K, with hundreds (if not thousands) of YouTube videos, not to mention all the streaming services that support resolution.

But for a screen that is either used for working or playing the best PC games, getting a 4K monitor might not be worth it. Gamers will likely want a faster refresh rate, and games like Cyberpunk 2077 are notoriously difficult to run at high resolution.

And, while most of what you’re doing is reading spreadsheets or writing emails, there’s not much to be gained from using such a high resolution. So, with the advent of extremely powerful hardware like the RTX 3080 that promises to deliver a flawless 4K experience no matter what you use your PC for, it’s worth considering whether you should go for it. for a premium 4K monitor, or save the money and get a 1440p or 1080p display instead.

Nvidia RTX 3070, RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 line up in promotional image from Nvidia

Let’s talk about 4K gaming

If you pay attention to games, you probably know that the PS5 and Xbox Series X are all 4K games, although those consoles are mostly lacking when it comes to the game. real render resolution – they mainly use methods to improve games from a lower resolution.

However, in September 2020, when Nvidia announced the GeForce RTX 3090, the company announced that the graphics card was capable of handling games not only in 4K, but in 8K. Now in our review it didn’t quite hit that mark, but it kind of gave the impression that 4K was already over and we were already ready to move up to 8K, but we didn’t. are certainly not there yet.

While there are certainly graphics cards that can handle 4K gaming with ease, like the RTX 3080 and Radeon RX 6800 XT, most graphics cards on the market just can’t. The GTX 1060 is still the most popular graphics card at the moment according to the latest Steam Hardware Survey. This card is really only for 1080p gamers, and it’s even starting to struggle, especially in more graphically demanding games.

So it’s no wonder that, according to that same hardware survey, only 2.14% of Steam users use a 4K monitor, with 68% still using 1080p displays and 8.24% using 1440p.

And this last resolution is the most interesting, especially when considering monitors with a high refresh rate. While the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 can absolutely play most games in 4K at around 60fps, you might get an even smoother experience at 1440p.

For example, in our review of Nvidia’s flagship card, we found that the RTX 3080 can get 70 fps in Horizon Zero Dawn at 4K, which is perfect. But at 1440p it was able to reach 116 fps, which is so close to that sweet spot of 120 Hz. Especially in online games like World of Warcraft and Overwatch where the speed of your reactions is paramount, a 1440p monitor will likely have much more sense.

Creation of #content

So while a 4K monitor doesn’t really make sense for gaming, that doesn’t mean they’re totally worthless. As we mentioned before, there is a ton of content available in 4K. And while we’ll always love to watch 4K movies in our living room on a TV, creating that content is a whole different story.

If you are editing a video in 4K, being able to see what you are working on in real time helps tremendously when trying to spot small details. In fact, for video editors who regularly work with 4K content, the best 4K monitors might not even be enough. With a 5K or even 8K monitor, you will be able to see every detail of your project while having tools visible in Premiere, Vegas, or whatever program you use to work with the video.

But it’s not just video. We do a lot of photo editing for our reviews, and we love having a luxury 4K display, because it helps us see exactly what the changes we make look like, especially when editing photos from our SLR. digital resolution greater than 4K.

4K monitor for emails?

One of the nicest things about using a 4K display is how clean and crisp everything is, especially the text. And, if you’re working on a lot of different things, you can easily split up your display and still have everything perfectly readable. We know there are several occasions when we’ll split our monitor into quarters, with a few web browser windows and Slack, especially when a lot is going on at once.

Especially if you only have room for one monitor, it makes sense to have a screen that will allow you to multitask. Getting hold of one of the best Ultrawide monitors is even better for this and can save your life if you have little desk space.

Likewise, though, if you don’t have to constantly do ten different things at the same time, there’s no point in grabbing a 4K display for your PC if you’re just going to be doing computer work every day. .

For most people who are going to primarily use their computers for everyday web browsing, checking email, and watching some YouTube, a 1080p monitor is always more than enough. Of course, things won’t be that crisp, but if you get a 24- or 27-inch monitor you probably won’t notice the difference unless you’re looking at the two monitors side by side. side.

All about value

The best 4K monitors are getting cheaper every day. It’s pretty easy to find a 4K gaming monitor around $ 249, like this Asus VP28UQG on Amazon. However, you still get what you pay for with something like this. Although it’s a 4K display, it doesn’t use a very good panel. It’s a TN panel that only has 300 nits of brightness and reaches 94% of the sRGB spectrum.

For the same money you can get a much nicer 1080p or 1440p display, a display that won’t cut out all the colors in your photos and has better viewing angles, so you don’t have to squint at your screen as you’re slightly to the side.

And, those high refresh rates you’ll find in low-res displays aren’t just for gamers. Everything you do on your PC is powered by hundreds of small animations, from moving a window on the desktop to just hovering your mouse cursor. On a high refresh screen, everything has a smoothness that is hard to describe until you experience it for yourself.

Denmark’s Euro 2020 semi-final fueled not only by emotion

Football, more and more, is a game of statistics and details, numbers and analysis, heat maps and algorithms. But it’s also a matter of emotion, and Denmark continue to ride the wave that started three weeks ago when Christian Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest in the first half of his group opener against Finland. A 2-1 win over the Czech Republic on Saturday brought Denmark to their first semi-final in a major tournament since winning it all at Euro 92, and they will face either England or Ukraine with the possibility to return to the final.

Maybe focusing on the emotional side is unfair. Denmark is a very well drilled side, far more than the sum of its parts. He clearly benefited from the management of Kasper Hjulmand, who replaced Ã…ge Hareide last year. It is a recurring pattern in sport that a team thrives under a charismatic man-manager when replacing a relentless taskmaster who has instilled the necessary structure but may not have the capacity to inspire. the self-confidence necessary for the players to express themselves fully for example, at Leicester, when Claudio Ranieri took over from Nigel Pearson).

And yet, emotion has a lot to do with it. Denmark, it should not be forgotten, lost its first two group matches, yet the forces unleashed before this second match, against Belgium, even if the match was lost, continue to resonate. Eriksen’s absence forced a form change that was clearly beneficial, but it’s more than that. Hjulmand spoke after Eriksen’s collapse about how players, facing mortality, contacted family and friends while waiting for the game to restart, minds cleared, little worries allayed. In the camp, a place is still reserved for Eriksen’s dinner; the memory of his fear has been embraced and will not be forgotten.

A useful side effect is to put football in perspective, both to ease the pressure on the players and to promote conviviality, the shared trauma generating the meaning of a quest. That Denmark are the only team to advance to the round of 16 after losing their first two games only adds to the feeling that it’s a fairy tale, that fate is behind it.

Shame was so few were there to see his last triumph. The Baku stadium in Azerbaijan was allowed to be half full, but only about a third of it showed up, around 10,000 in total, including 1,500 Danes and 300 Czechs. This once again raises the question of why UEFA is ready to host matches whose main purpose is to reinforce the image of an autocratic regime. There has been a report that local security confiscated a rainbow flag from Danish fans.

Denmark celebrates with fans after beating Czech Republic

As for the game itself, Denmark, playing with great confidence, were in the lead after just five minutes. The Czechs’ height and prowess were supposed to be among their main threats, but it was from a Danish corner – given controversially – that the opening came. Simon Kjaer made a smart blocking run as Jens Stryger Larsen threw the ball through from the right but, despite everything, Thomas Delaney was left disconcerting without scoring to enter without even having to leave the ground.

Danish right-winger Stryger Larsen was a lingering threat, as was Joakim Maehle on the left. In a first half in which two teams playing identical forms largely canceled out, it was the winger’s forward thrusts that gave Denmark an advantage. That advantage brought in a second goal three minutes before halftime, with Maehle, a right foot playing to the left, crossing with the outside of his right foot for Kasper Dolberg to slam in his third of the tournament.

Denmark beat Czech Republic in Euro 2020 quarter-finals

This year has been difficult for Dolberg. He is only 23 years old but already has a difficult career behind him. Great things were predicted for him when he was at Ajax, but he had started to stagnate when he landed in Nice in 2019. In the last season he ran out of time due to COVID-19 and injuries and had his car and watch stolen. the latter in the hands of a teammate. He only started because of Yussuf Poulsen’s injury, but he scored twice against Wales and added his 10th international goal here. But any idea that the game was over quickly vanished after the break.

Czech Republic coach Jaroslav Å ilhavý made two halftime substitutions, changed form to 4-4-2 and was awarded within four minutes as Patrik Schick struck one with a controlled volley from ‘a cross from Vladimír Coufal, equaling Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of the Golden Shoe standings. For a while Denmark faltered, but Hjulmand’s changes, especially Poulsen’s introduction for Dolberg, brought an element of control. In the end, the Czechs were reduced to sending balls, hopefully, into the box, but the three Danish defenders were pretty comfortable with that.

And so the great story continues. Reaching the last eight was probably a realistic goal for Denmark at the start of the competition. He’s gone beyond that now and could go all the way.

Coral Springs History Museum reopens with incredible interactive learning experience • Coral Springs Talk

By: Jen Russon

Before being the city with it all in the sun, Coral Springs was a rider’s paradise – open fields as far as the eye can see and with less than a third of the population it now has.

“In the early 1970s, no one wanted to live here. They thought it was in the middle of nowhere. Fifty-eight years later, look at how we’ve grown, ”said Kelli Matonak.

Matonak is the historian and marketing coordinator of the Coral Springs History Museum located at 10000 NW 29th St and can recite collage of old newspaper clippings covering a wall, almost word for word.

The museum opened in 1977, closed for repairs in 2005, and again in 2019. They were also closed during the pandemic.

On Thursday, Matonak was on hand to offer an exclusive tour of the renovated space and a first look at a cutting-edge new exhibit designed by Juliana Newman and Claudia Gonzalez.

The duo created “Sunny,” a personalized and convenient touchscreen that functions as a guide – or a guide – in a world-class museum.

Visitors tap the screen to play trivia games and access detailed maps of every neighborhood in the city, as they appeared in the decades from the 1950s to the 2020s.

They can also learn all about the city namesakes for well-known schools and roads. There’s even a coloring book for younger visitors, inviting them to paint scenes of ancient Coral Springs with their fingertips.

“We wanted to create an easy-to-use interactive experience for people of all ages – something very intuitive,” said Gonzalez, videographer and UI UX designer.

Newman, a graphic designer, pieced together Polaroids of the city’s founders; JP Taravella, James S. Hunt and Lewis Mullins and animated them while reading their contributions to the city.

“We really can’t wait for residents to come and help us celebrate our 58th birthday on July 10,” said Matonak, adding that she would be there to give personal tours.

She knows that kids in grades three and up will truly enjoy the museum’s authentic mailroom and the activities she has personally designed.

“We touch on the story of the Lyons family and how they used to sell green beans,” she said, highlighting the novelty peas in a pod key chains that go home with the youngsters. .

Matonak said that it is the teenagers and students of the story who will want to learn as much as possible about their city, which was little more than a covered bridge, Thunderbird Villas and the Westinghouse Home Center in 1964.

Models of the city’s oldest communities await under glass for visitors to admire. One of the exhibits consists of original fixtures from the First Town Hall, including its bank safe.

An encyclopedia in regards to Coral Springs, Matonak said on the town’s birthday, there will be storytellers recreating the town of yesteryear as they sit on the iconic white fences that were ubiquitous in Coral Springs. .

But that’s not all.

“Of course there will also be horses and ice cream. This is Coral Springs we’re talking about, ”she said.

A groundbreaking ceremony is also planned for the 58th anniversary celebration on Saturday July 10 at 10 a.m. Until then, museum opening hours are by appointment only.

Artist draws dark side of Ukraine with ballpoint pen

KYIV – Whatever his subject – a tycoon living en masse as many go hungry, a henchman hired to break up protests, an impoverished Ukrainian driven abroad to seek work – the artist Serhiy Kolyada puts it on paper with a simple tool: a ballpoint pen.

At 49, whose life and art spanned the end of the Soviet era and the often tumultuous three decades that followed since independence in 1991, Kolyada draws inspiration from “everywhere” – and then, putting the tip of a simple paper construction Bic, draws images that he says depict the belly of Ukraine.

They describe the evils of society, state depredations, and aspects of life that damage Ukraine’s image abroad, such as greed, corruption, sex tourism, migration from workforce associated with poverty, alcoholism and, according to him, criminals in parliament.

He calls it “zhlob” art. The term is difficult to skillfully translate, with meanings ranging from “stray” to a crass, narrow-minded jerk. But Kolyada’s works are teeming with these “anti-heroes,” whether it’s a venal oligarch or a thug the oligarch uses as a paid muscle to execute the forced takeover of a business.

“He is a person who is rude and behaves belligerently in society,” he said. “As if they don’t pick up trash after them… in the criminal world they ride drunks for money… and later these people get into politics and while in power they encourage corruption.” by continuing the practice of theft ”of the state budget.

It’s a societal symptom that “starts at the bottom and goes all the way to the top,” Kolyada added.

A drawing by Serhiy Kolyada of a father and son outside a Kiev prison.

Kolyada’s works can be off-putting, and perhaps that is his goal: speaking to RFE / RL at his makeshift home studio in Kiev, he said his target was the viewer’s brain, not his eyes.

“We already have a lot of art that performs a decorative function, that is pleasing to the eye… What we need is art that will make a person think,” Kolyada said.

Over time, a disturbing figure in a series of his drawings became Kateryna, a woman with bare feet and furrowed brow. an 1842 painting by Taras Shevchenko, a multitalented poet and artist who is a dominant figure in Ukrainian culture, who portrays her separation from a Russian Tsarist officer.

Serhiy Kolyada holds one of his works in front of a painting by 19th-century poet and artist Taras Shevchenko, both of which depict a character named Kateryna.

He inserted an identical image of her in many contexts such as Capitol Hill in Washington, Red Square in Moscow and Kiev over the Maidan barricades – the massive protests that were sparked in part by anger against the corruption and pushed President-friend of Moscow Viktor Yanukovych from power in 2014.

Through Kateryna, said Kolyada, he tries “to show what Ukraine is and what it means … in the former Soviet Union we were all Russians … here I want to show that we are a separate country” .

By placing it in various foreign contexts, the artist said he was highlighting “the plight of Ukrainian women who have had to go abroad to earn money as migrant workers”.

He chose her, he said, “because nothing has changed in the 200 years that have passed since Shevchenko’s life.”

The “government still has the same attitude towards its people… the same social problems exist. We still have a feudal system with barons, ”Kolyada said, referring to tycoons widely seen as wielding political influence.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy was democratically elected but behaves like a “monarch” and “has oligarchs for princes,” he said, without providing details to substantiate his remarks.

Kolyada also looks to other figures of the past, from the Soviet-era writer Mikhail Bulgakov born in Kiev to the Bible and well in between. He mixed elements of pop culture with Renaissance imagery – Michelangelo’s David on a nude beach – and the works of Nikolai Gogol, another major figure in Ukraine.

From the Maidan – after which Russia seized the Crimean Peninsula and supported anti-Kiev forces in a war that still continues in eastern Ukraine – Kolyada added scenes from the protest movement to his drawings “to show that there are people ready to sacrifice their lives for freedom, their country, and to protect their compatriots.”

‘In my dreams’

Kolyada’s disaffection with state and society is firmly rooted in the Soviet era, which ended when he was around 20 years old.

He credits his keen sense of justice to listening to Voice of America (VOA), RFE / RL and BBC broadcasts on shortwave radio.

As with many people in Ukraine and elsewhere, the 1986 disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was at the root of his distrust of the Soviet system, Kolyada said. He started listening to Western broadcasters at night and writing letters to editors.

“I think that’s when the KGB started watching me, especially when a priest who was running a program on VOA answered me and the envelope had been opened,” he said. he declares.

As he grew older, Kolyada began participating in anti-government protests and drawing pictures that confused Soviet authorities and showed empty shelves in stores, as well as taking art classes.

Later, his application to an art institute in Kharkiv was rejected. He spent a month in Sweden during the abortive coup d’état of August 1991 which accelerated the Soviet break-up. He was refused political asylum and was greeted by KGB agents when he flew to Moscow.

He then returned to Zaporizhzhya University where he had been enrolled, but was quickly expelled for his “anti-Soviet position” and ended up training to become a Ukrainian language teacher at a university in Berdyansk, the port city of the Sea of Azov. where he grew up after his birth in Odessa.

Kolyada's main tool is a ballpoint pen, but he sometimes adds gouache or watercolors to his works.

After graduating in 1997, Kolyada traveled to Kiev and continued to draw with a ballpoint pen, living in part on the money he made selling his sketches during his university studies.

Kolyada draws his inspiration from “everywhere”, he said – on the streets, in the news, in books and advertisements, and “in my dreams”. When an idea for a work of art takes shape, it “takes a long time for the subject to boil in my brain.”

Once on paper, his works can go up to $ 3,000, partly depending on size, but they sell for an average of between $ 500 and $ 600. That’s a far cry from what more famous Ukrainian artists can earn: A work by Lviv-based painter Ivan Turetskiy sold for $ 21,250 at an auction in April at Sotheby’s in New York.

Galleries and the artistic establishment in Ukraine have for the most part avoided his works, which often feature eroticism and nudity as well as their impenetrable images.

“The gallery owners ‘like’ my works on Facebook but never offer to exhibit them,” he said. “It’s a confusing situation and they don’t provide a specific reason.”

A drawing by Kolyada of the Mona Lisa wearing a mask alluding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A drawing by Kolyada of the Mona Lisa wearing a mask alluding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said gallery owners offered to show his work but demanded he pay $ 1,000 while allowing them to choose which pieces to display.

“It’s a closed circle,” he said, adding that he supplemented his income by working as a graphic designer and shrugging his shoulders. “I don’t care about them [gallerists]… They ignore me and I ignore them. “

Kolyada has had more success abroad and with expats in Ukraine.

From time to time, Kolyada adds gouache or watercolors to his ballpoint pen work, such as in a drawing he devoted to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States. As for the materials, he says he’s tried them all.

“I drew with a pencil, painted with watercolors and oils – but I always came back to my ink,” he said.

It is not a crowded field. Kolyada said he was the only prominent Ukrainian member of the informal ballpoint pen art movement.

“There was another ballpoint pen, in Luhansk,” he said, referring to one of the eastern towns held by Russian-backed separatists. “But when the war with Russia started in 2014, I lost track of him, and I don’t know where he is now.”

There is now a Buffalo-style French bread pizza at a WNY pizzeria

One of my favorite dishes as a kid was French bread pizza. Whenever I have it now as an adult it gives me childhood nostalgia. I think a lot of people would agree that it’s a big change of pace if you’re in the mood for pizza.

The unique crust is so good, though, let’s be honest, you’d better make sure the pizza is chilled before you take a bite. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve burned my palate with French bread pizza.

It’s a bit of a surprise to me that more pizzerias in western New York don’t have French bread pizza as an option, as it looks like it could be a big change for a local pizza place.

Yesterday Macy’s Place Pizzeria tweeted a photo of a whole range of new French bread pizzas and they look amazing!

They call it a baguette box and I’m so hungry right now.

If you’re not familiar with Macy’s Place Pizzeria, they have grown in popularity over the past few years for creative and unique pizza creations and serve some of the best Buffalo-style pizzas in western New York.

Macy’s is located on Genesee Street in Cheektowaga.

Come to think of it, French Bread pizza would probably be even more popular in Buffalo. Since the Buffalo style features a slightly thicker crust, that’s basically what French Bread pizza crust is and you can load up with extra cheese and toppings.

Malik Hooker Safety Makes Sense For Crows

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Ravens could use depth to safety behind DeShon Elliott and Chuck Clark.

Baltimore has several rookies and sophomores competing for spots on the roster, including Geno Stone, Jordan Richards, Nigel Warrior and Ar’Darius Washington. Brandon Stephens, a rookie third-round pick from SMU, can also transition to the safe cornerback.

However, the Ravens could use an experienced player like Malik Hooker, who is still looking to hang on to a squad.

Hooker is an intriguing player who was selected 15th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts after a stellar career at Ohio State.

Injury has unfortunately been the biggest story of Hooker’s career so far. He missed the last nine games of his rookie season in 2017 and, after playing 27 games over the next two seasons, he missed all but two games last year with a tear in Achilles.

Hooker has seven interceptions in his career, including three in those seven games in 2017.

Hooker has visited the Cowboys, Dolphins and Steelers before since becoming a free agent

“It’s about fitting into the perfect system so that I can go out there and show off my talents,” Hooker told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “There were a few teams that I visited that I thought about a lot. Now it’s just a matter of taking my time with this. Training camp is next month, not next week, so I have time to still be able to sort things out and hopefully go further to see what else the teams are talking about. Maybe meet some teams that I have met before, hopefully.

Spanish couple develop high-tech specs to help son see

Published on: Amended:

Barcelona (AFP)

When their two-year-old son, Biel, started falling a lot and struggled to climb the stairs after learning to walk, Jaume Puig and his wife sought medical help to figure out the problem.

After seeing several doctors, the toddler was diagnosed with low vision, a condition much more common than blindness that makes daily tasks difficult.

In Biel’s case, this was due to a problem with the optic nerve, but the condition can also be caused by defects in the retina, brain, or other parts of the visual system, or by conditions such as glaucoma or macular degeneration.

Low vision cannot be corrected with glasses or surgery. And while magnifiers can help with specific tasks like reading, there was no technology available to help the toddler move around.

So in 2017 Puig, a Spanish electrical engineer, and his wife Constanza Lucero, a doctor, founded Biel Glasses, a company that created a digital device to help visually impaired people move around safely on their own.

“There are canes and guide dogs. Nothing else. We got into this because we saw there was a need,” Puig, 52, told AFP at the time. of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the largest annual gathering of the telecommunications industry.

The helmet is on display at the show.

A cross between gaming glasses and glasses, it creates a 3D image on which text, graphics and videos can be overlaid on real world images.

It also uses AI to detect and report obstacles.

“We thought we could use these technologies to take advantage of the vision he has so that he can be more independent.

“Maybe we can’t cure him, but we can help him,” Puig said of his eight-year-old son.

When a carrier approaches an object blocking their path, a large red circle appears on the screen to warn them of the obstacle.

It also allows them to zoom in on a road sign or other object.

The development of the glasses cost 900,000 euros ($ 1 million), of which the couple invested 65,000 euros of their own money, the rest coming from public institutions and crowdfunding.

They worked with a team of doctors and computer engineers, including one of Spain’s top low vision specialists, to create the product that has been approved for use in the European Union.

It is expected to go on sale in Spain and Denmark later this year.

The glasses, which must be personalized for the specific needs of each user, cost 4,900 euros ($ 5,850).

Puig, who founded several other tech startups, now hopes to add voice activation and a navigation system that works with Google Maps in future versions of the glasses.

Detroit Lions The Biggest X Factor Buckeyes Of Ohio State Jeff Okudah

Fan excitement subsided fairly quickly for a No.3 pick in the NFL Draft.

Cornerback Jeff Okudah was supposed to be prepared and ready to help in the Detroit Lions defense.

Instead, the talented defensive back battled injury and was taken advantage of by some of the National Football League’s top spreaders.

Former head coach Matt Patricia has never been able to fully exploit the potential of several roster members. As a result, he was fired before the end of the 2020 NFL season.

Recommended Lions Articles

After Patricia’s disastrous tenure, Detroit turned to former defensive back Aaron Glenn to help rebuild Detroit’s defense and get the most out of the 22-year-old cornerback.

Okudah admitted that he had already seen football from a new perspective after meeting the new coaching staff during the offseason.

“I see the film in a whole new light,” Okudah told reporters. “I see the game completely differently. So that’s one thing that really excites me as I approach my second year, is that it’s slowed down from that aspect.

Okudah is a player who can turn things around quickly in Motown, and his resurgence is probably one of the biggest factors that could help Detroit win more games.

According to ESPN, “His 2.3 yards allowed by snap coverage was the most qualifying cornerbacks in the NFL last season, and he struggled with injuries and Matt Patricia’s defensive plan on the way. towards a cover rating of 30.9. The talent is still there. The Lions are just hoping that starts to show in 2021. “

The Lions don’t tell Okudah to be the savior, they just want him to be himself and take a step forward in his career.

If he can stay healthy, the second-year defensive back should make contributions to that defense that will help the team turn the corner.

Artist Calder Kamin envisions ‘a world without waste’: with animals made from plastic bags, Austin native turns our gaze to nature – Arts

Calder Kamin with his Pixel canine companion (Photo by David Brendan Hall)

Calder Kamin would like you to send him your old plastic bags. The creative reuse crusader, known for turning trash into art, crochet the toughest critters with plastic yarn. His intricate animal sculptures are composed entirely of discarded contraptions, pen caps and play pieces with “plann” skins.

In “A World Without Waste”, his solo exhibition at Ivester Contemporary, Kamin presents 11 works – an assortment of canines with a family of foxes – and a Superartificial desert installed on the floor of the gallery. His luminous menagerie of colorful creatures has similar titles: Worry bastard, Puppy Plant, and Wildflower wolf. (Its affinity for alliteration comes from having its own catchy name.)

But beneath the playfulness hides something serious: is our planet becoming its own plastic skin? I had the chance to talk with Kamin about “A World Without Waste” and the different hats she wears as an artist, activist and now, amenity. The 36-year-old Austin native is currently an artist in residence at a multi-family apartment complex in Fort. Value. (This interview has been edited for clarity and length.)

Austin Chronicle: You describe yourself as an artist, educator and advocate. What role do you identify with the most?

Calder Kamin: I am an artist overall. We see the world differently and see the potential of things when others don’t. There is a long legacy of artists using found objects and waste to create their work. I have always loved the ingenuity of Ruth Asawa; she is known for her wire hanging sculptures, but I had no idea she was the mother of creative reuse centers in San Francisco! When her children were of school age, she started an art program and asked parents to donate materials. She worked with several other artists in the Bay Area to make it official. They’re all over the United States now, and that’s Asawa’s legacy. Austin Creative Reuse is a beacon for me. I joined their board in May 2020, to champion the potential of these materials and ourselves – to understand this difficult future that lies ahead. It’s not just for artists with a capital “A”; there are so many brilliant creators in Austin, and I want them to have a platform through ACR.

CA: You make all kinds of critters: Do you have a favorite?

CK: Dogs – canines – are my favorite for sculpting. They are omnivorous, and because they eat our waste, that’s how the whole human-wolf relationship began.

CA: Speaking of which, is your Pixel pooch more of a role model or a muse?

CK: She’s a good friend. [laughs] She has been to every exhibition installation with me. When I had the exhibit at the DoSeum in San Antonio, she was there with me until 2 a.m. every night. Pixel and I took the children’s museum tour on our own – but she’s not interested in art at all!

CA: You are based in Austin but currently live in Fort. Value?

“Doing this kind of work is definitely my fun inner child. My programming is for all ages, but the reason the emphasis is on kids is that we’ve left a huge mess for them. – Calder Kamin

CK: Yes, I am here until October. It was a total lark, I was scrolling Instagram, following the hashtag #CallForArtists, and a notification popped up for American Landmark Apartments. They were looking for an artist in residence; a week later I received a phone call for their Shelby property in Northside in Fort. Value. They gave me a large studio – it was an old utility closet – as well as an apartment. In exchange for this space, I offer activities for residents. I am technically advertised as a convenience. There is a gym, a swimming pool and now an artist. I still have my job at UT as a guidance counselor. When I graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2009, I knew I wanted to help artists as my daily job. I grew up in Austin; the first place I sold my art was in fifth grade at the Yard Dog Art Gallery. They asked me to make little animals and Elvis in Sculpy [polymer clay]. This was back when Chuy’s was still local and the whole South Congress neighborhood was celebrating Elvis’ birthday. I didn’t know much about him other than that he had big hair, wore rhinestone jackets, and liked donuts – so I made these little busts of big Elvis.

CA: When did you start working with garbage as a medium?

CK: While living in Kansas City, I started birding, and the most interesting behavior I witnessed was a nest made of garbage. To build the architecture of the next generation, I thought, I have to look more like a bird! It was around 2013. Then I came back to Austin in 2014, and there was the citywide ban on plastic bags, which I was very proud of, but it made my gear scarce. It was then that this process of collecting and educating the public really developed. People from all over the United States, old college friends, and Instagram followers have started sending me their trash.

CA: Your animals are so smart and cute! How do you find the balance between adorable and urgent?

CK: I talk to children as if they were adults. The DoSeum asked me to build a world on the future, so I created a time machine. You’ve walked through a spiral entrance, into a dump world with cockroaches everywhere. There was a raccoon trapped in a refrigerator, and a seagull choking on plastic – and a vulture watching the seagull. The other world was a forest where something terrible had happened; a baby fawn stood in the middle. There are no humans in my world: The movement to save the planet is to save humans! We continue to transform and adapt, but we need to be more like nature.

CA: Are your rooms always so colorful?

KC: I organized a workshop at Women & Their Work in 2016, during my show “Plastic Planet”, and a little girl came to me and said: “If your work is about false nature, your animals can be. in all the colors you want. ” So now I have these creatures that are full of the rainbow. Back then I was only using plastic bags, but I started exploring new materials in 2019. Creative reuse centers struggle to get people to use really weird stuff – I’m the one. spokesperson for that! Koozies are one of my most coveted materials. All I use is a hook needle, hot glue gun, and thread pliers. Doing this kind of work is definitely my fun inner child. My programming is for all ages, but the reason the emphasis is on kids is because we’ve left a huge mess for them.

CA: So what is the plan?

CK: Plastic bag wire. My orange bags come from a customer in Omaha. My blue bags are New York Times sleeves. I use fruit bags, grocery bags, and newspaper pockets and roll them up like a burrito to cut strips – full circles – and lace the circles into each other to make ties for my yarn. . Some people have built more complex contraptions, to create a smooth continuous line, but mine are a bit bigger and softer. The crochet plan passes over a foam mold; for the most part I can only find taxidermy forms on eBay. But the Floral Fox Kits in this show, for example, there is only a bunch of yarn, foam, and duct tape.

CA: How long does it take to make each animal?

CK: It’s months of preparing all the components, starting with collecting the materials. I’m someone with busy hands whether I’m in the studio or not, so I’m always doing something. I carry a handbag with plannings everywhere I go. My studio has tons of bins for crochet stuff, plastic flowers, cutout marker caps, and tiny little things. I made a 17ft whale for the Austin Public Library and it took me two years – I had to wait for the ban on plastic bags to be lifted. My coworkers commuting from Kyle or Manor filled my desk drawer with them.

CA: What is the main message of “A world without waste”?

KC: Nature will continue to thrive, with or without us.

Hold this tiger

Jesse Ernest Caesar (Courtesy of Calder Kamin)

Calder Kamin is not the only member of his family who has an artistic connection with animals. Her grandfather, Jesse Ernest Caesar – to whom she dedicated her solo exhibition “A World Without Waste” – was intimately linked to a tiger: the tiger Exxon. Well, it was originally Esso’s tiger, as the cartoon cat was born a decade before the oil company rebranded itself with the “xx”, but Caesar was there when he was born. He was the senior art director of the Houston office of the legendary advertising agency McCann Erickson (often denounced in Mad Men), which was developing a new campaign for Esso in 1964. “Put a tiger in your tank” was the slogan, and Caesar and his team came up with a tiger that said “power”: a fat bodybuilder with the barrel chest of a cat with thick arms and an irrepressible smile. He immediately caught the public imagination and remained the spokesperson for Exxon for decades.

(Caesar was also at McCann in 1975, when the Houston Astros needed a new look. Although he himself didn’t create the horizontal stripes of the rainbow – it was a young graphic designer named Jack Amuny – he led the uniform design team which caused a parcel controversy. This, however, is another story – but a good story.)

While Kamin was preparing to open “A World Without Waste”, his grandfather passed away. the the Chronicle extend our condolences. – Robert Faires

Jill from Battle Creek, featured pet for Wiggly Tail on Wednesday

Meet Jill, a girl with a heart bigger than her adorable ears.

Sweet Jill is about 7 months old and still has a lot of energy. She loves to attract attention and pets, but will need some time to settle into her new home. Humane Society of South Central Michigan (HSSCM) staff say Jill is a Italian Greyhound mix, a breed historically popular with nobility and royalty.

Jill’s ideal home is quiet with a fenced yard. Because she is an energetic girl, she would not be a good candidate to live in an apartment. Jill is still working to master her leash skills and will need a forever family ready to patiently work on her training. A home with children 10 years of age or older who have experience with small dog breeds is recommended.

Jill should do well with a cat if given a slow, positive introduction. She should correspond well with another dog, while waiting for a meeting. One thing is for sure, this big-hearted girl with her cute ears is ready to be reunited with her family forever. Could it be you?

Houston Texans’ three-year salary cap projection: the outlook is bleak

When an NFL team is rebuilding – not just the roster, but the entire franchise – things usually go from bad to worse before they get better.

This is exactly where the Houston Texans could be right now.

Question marks surround the organization, from the starting quarterback to the first head coach to the first general manager. But there is always hope for the future, isn’t there?

READ MORE: Infamous Texans Trade: Worst In NFL History?

Our favorite roster makers at Pro Football Focus put together another roster, this time analyzing the salary cap for the next three years and the health of project capital for all 32 teams. Watch out, Houston Texans fans, your team is almost down.

The Houston Texans rank 30th overall, 30th in active project capital, 24th in effective cap space, 11th in prorated salaries, 23rd in top 51 veterans assessment, and 30th in unrestricted free agent assessment.

Not good.

READ MORE: Texas coach Culley called NFL worst; Unfair?

Pro Football Focus had this to say about the Texans’ standings:

“The Texans have skewed their ranking here a bit by signing 39 free agents this offseason – only one other team has eclipsed 25, with 27 – with the lion’s share of those deals being one year. As a result, they rank third in the free 2022 agent review column, but in reality it’s a quantity versus quality issue, they won’t need to replace many of those actors.

That said, Houston spent the most money in the NFL in 2020, and they prorated a good portion. The lack of a first-round pick over the past two years due to Laremy Tunsil’s trade doesn’t do them a favor either, which is why they rank 30th in the active draft capital. “

The Texans find themselves in the basement of the NFL, but what about their opponents in the AFC South?

The rebuilding Jacksonville Jaguars are second, the Indianapolis Colts third and the Tennessee Titans 23rd. … All are doing better than the Texans.

Fans can only hope that this is one of the last vestiges of the Bill O’Brien era that the team faces, and that the David Culley / Nick Caserio era ushers in some victories. and a brighter future.

Nazi catfishing poisons group of left-wing activists

Medicare For All activists knew something was wrong when a man joined a Zoom meeting posing as an organizer who was already on a conference call. Their suspicions were only heightened when the intruder started talking about licking balls.

It was Sunday, and activists – who are trying to organize a national Medicare For All event – were already on edge. Earlier that day, they had been criticized for accidentally announcing a notorious neo-Nazi (as well as, unrelatedly, “Garfield” cartoonist Jim Davis) as the keynote speaker.

Now the group says it is being attacked by infiltrators, including trolls and an unauthorized Green Party chapter. Messages from the group’s Slack channel obtained by The Daily Beast reveal activists urging the organization to pull itself together on cybersecurity ahead of its July 24 rally with former presidential candidate Marianne Williamson.

March For Medicare For All (M4M4A) is a new organization, made up of left-wing activists from across the country and a handful of local political groups like Portland, the Oregon Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America and the Green Party. of Washington State. The coalition plans to hold Medicare for All rallies in cities across the country next month.

But M4M4A drew unwanted attention this weekend when it announced an event in Muncie, Indiana with a speaker named “Matt H. Bach”.

As other activists quickly noted on Twitter, the bespectacled man in the event flyer actually appeared to be Matthew Heimbach, a former leader of several neo-Nazi groups. Heimbach has become one of the most recognizable faces in the country on the far right after participating in the 2017 murderous Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville, Va., And most recently appeared in the news for assaulting a relative during the ‘a quadrilateral of intra-family love. (M4M4A also announced a much more innocuous character, Jim Davis, the creator of the “Garfield” comics, as the emcee of the Muncie event.)

“Behind each statistic hides a family or loved ones they miss. These are human lives.“

– Nick Iannone

For activists who noted Heimbach’s photo on M4M4A leaflets, his presence at a left-wing event was not impossible to believe. In 2018, Heimbach reportedly attempted to make inroads with Tennessee Democrats, without disclosing his white supremacist activities.

After hours of fury, M4M4A released a statement on Twitter condemning Heimbach and white nationalism. The group blamed the people “who acted independently and deliberately tried to derail and infiltrate our movement.” The organization said it voted to stop the Muncie march.

Asked for comment, Heimbach told the Daily Beast he was never invited to the rally. Davis could not be reached for comment. There is no evidence that either individual participated in the internal chaos of the group.

M4M4A’s Slack channel posts suggest the group has been fished. In a conversation, provided to The Daily Beast by someone with access to the channel, the M4M4A graphic designer was contacted by someone with the username “Ethan Rae Steele”. Steele sent the designer pictures of “speakers” for the Muncie march, presumably including Heimbach and Davis, although Steele later deleted his account, erasing his messages. Steele also appeared to request access to M4M4A’s social media accounts.

It’s unclear whether Steele or other posers secured the group’s social media connections. M4M4A did not return repeated requests for comment. With or without the credentials, however, graphics promoting Nazis to trolls hit M4M4A’s Instagram over the weekend, alongside photos of more serious activists scheduled to speak out.

When the flashback began, not all of the M4M4A organizers were convinced they had been duped. “How sure are we that it’s not Matt Bach from Monmouth Cardiology,” an activist asked in M4M4A Slack, suggesting that the Muncie organizers accidentally uploaded the wrong photo from Google. And while some have grasped the urgency of the situation (“the post must be deleted NOW,” one wrote), others have also challenged their criticism on Twitter. One leader suggested the group examine the apparent cat-fishing effort, but also suggested that a prominent anti-fascist who drew attention to Heimbach’s photo was secretly working with the CIA.

A Zoom call to discuss the infiltration only underscored the group’s concerns.

“A young male voice with a Midwestern accent continued to join in on the Zoom call that we put in place to discuss this,” Nick Iannone, an M4M4A activist, told The Daily Beast. “He pretended to be the main organizer, asked for credentials, then asked about ‘ligma’ as a joke. We knew he was a troll because the person he was impersonating was already on the call. “(” Ligma “is a trick joke where someone tries to trick people into a conversation about” ligma ” [lick my] bullets ”, etc.)

Later, on Slack, activists opened up about what they said was M4M4A’s questionable cybersecurity.

“I’m actually VERY worried now,” wrote the graphic designer who apparently had been tricked into making the Muncie flyers. (The designer couldn’t be reached for comment as he only used a common first name in Slack conversations.) “I remember that person who submitted the photos also expressed interest in accessing to social media accounts. I’m not sure anyone handed them out, but it’s something to be scaled up. “

“We need a new invite-only game,” suggested another.

“Honestly,” replied an organizer, “we don’t have time for all of this. But if that’s what people want to do, I guess that’s fine with me.

More publicly, on Twitter, M4M4A has taken an uncompromising stand against the infiltrators.

On Monday, the group posted a link to a now-deleted Twitter for the Las Vegas Green Party. “Infiltration is everywhere,” M4M4A tweeted. “This is not an official Green Party account. This person tried to infiltrate our movement. This is the one that was taken. Make known. “

The Nevada Green Party issued a similar statement, announcing that the Las Vegas Green Party and its leader were “not affiliated with the Nevada Green Party or the ‘M4M4ALL’ event. all) in any way. In addition, the Nevada Green Party does not have a branch in Las Vegas or Clark County. Any representation to the contrary is fraudulent. Unfortunately, the infiltration of organizations and political parties is widespread.

Alex Williams, regional director of the future Green Party in Vegas, has refuted claims he infiltrated the group. He claimed the fight spilled over from an old feud he had with the organizers of M4M4A when they all tried to work together on “Force The Vote,” a doomed attempt to force Congress to hold a vote on Medicare For All earlier this year.

“I was only regional manager for about a week. I was actually the one who connected the Green Party of Nevada with the Medicare for All March, ”Williams told the Daily Beast. He said he understood he was a general member of the Nevada Green Party, which enabled him to establish his own local party branch and begin fundraising on his own behalf and on behalf of M4M4A. .

Emails between Williams and the Nevada Green Party suggest the group has split from him in recent days amid conversations about the organization of M4M4A, making it clear that his actual title was that of an intern (Williams has said it was the first time he had heard of the title), and that his fundraising efforts seemed to be beyond his purview.

“I would like to let you know that setting up a donation account under the pretext that you work with / for the Green Party is illegal,” a Nevada Green Party leader sent him.

Williams has denied any misconduct.

“It is actually not illegal for me to set up a fundraising page as a local Nevada Green Party, as there is no local Nevada Green Party yet,” Williams told the Daily Beast, adding that he had in fact not raised any funds. A spokesperson for the Green Party of Nevada reaffirmed to the Daily Beast that the Vegas group was illegitimate.

The social media turmoil has driven at least one group of Medicare for All advocates away from M4M4A: Activists in Fort Lauderdale, who had independently planned a July 24 march promoted by M4M4A, are now planning to hold a different event, a local activist told The Beast of the Day.

Still, a large part of the group is fighting. Iannone, the activist who took part in the Zoom bombed Sunday appeal, said the Medicare For All fight was personal to him. Although he lives with severe ADD, he lost access to his medication for eight years after a cut in insurance left him with no coverage. Other people, he noted, are struggling to afford even more critical care.

“Behind every statistic is a family or loved ones they miss. These are human lives, ”he said. “We spend so much time worrying about the cost and who owes what to whom, that we have allowed the ‘death signs’ Republicans feared to come true, in the form of debtors’ prisons that medical debt is become. “

In its statement on Twitter, M4M4A said it was investigating the circumstances that led to its infiltration.

“Our rules and ethics committee will hold a meeting to investigate, discuss safety procedures and put in place a strict verification process so that we can make sure this never happens again,” the group wrote.

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Review: You Can’t Chat With Cheap

There’s something a little counter-revolutionary about high-end gaming machines made by suit-and-tie PC companies. The idea of Lenovo, creator of the ThinkPad, building a gaming machine worthy of review is a little weird, and yet the Legion 5 Pro is just that. The Walmart-exclusive model I’m testing costs $ 1,530, pairing AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800H with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3070 graphics. Powerful and affordable? It’s almost revolutionary.

To complete this list of specifications, 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. Fortunately, both components can be upgraded by the user. This hard drive will barely last more than a few homework calls before you use an external drive. But these are the kind of smart compromises Lenovo made to keep the price low, allowing you to add more RAM and storage as needed.

  • Ryzen 7 and RTX 3070 for $ 1,530
  • Fast and great for games
  • I / O buckets

The inconvenients

  • Baaaaaad battery life
  • Gets too hot under heavy load

And then there’s the screen, a 16-inch, 165Hz QHD, X-Rite Pantone-validated IPS display with the new, larger 16:10 aspect ratio. At 500 nits, the panel can withstand bright light compared to many of its rivals, and the matte screen reduces the risk of glare. Watching 4K video on this thing is a very enjoyable experience and I enjoyed working from this device the last week or so as I use it. It certainly makes you want to spend hours looking at gigapixel footage of, say, Paris, which I certainly haven’t spent a lot of time doing this week (coughing).

Lenovo wasn’t looking to pull trees with this design, which is little more than a refinement of what went before. It’s not as thin or light as its rivals, and looks best in a dark room lit only by the glow of an RGB keyboard and the odd Nanoleaf panel. But if you buy it as a replacement for a desktop that will spend 90% of its time on the same desktop, that’s fine. Oh, and the aluminum frame is rock solid, giving you confidence when you need to take it somewhere. This matte gray paint job, while very commercial, hides a plethora of palm sweat sins, but will attract every speck of dust within a three mile zone.

The Legion 5 Pro’s bulky chassis also means you’ll find great I / O power around its bridge. You get four USB-A (3.2 Gen 1) jacks, two USB-C (3.2 Gen 2) connections, HDMI, Ethernet, and a 3.5mm headphone / microphone jack, along with the proprietary power port. On the right side, you’ll also find a hardware camera mute button, which replaces the dedicated hardware shutter from previous versions.

Even after several days of use, using the Lenovo TrueStrike keyboard is still a pleasant but strange experience. The keys are 1.5mm deep, but Lenovo uses “soft landing” switches to make each actuation a little deeper than that. Every time you press a key, you expect the shake of a mechanical keyboard, only to find a mellow end and bounce back. It’s like filling your shoes with water on a hot day and then stepping in: it’s very helpful, but your brain is telling you that something is wrong here.

It’s worth noting that Lenovo took advantage of the Legion 5’s larger bridge size to include a numeric keypad. The company says the numeric keypad itself is full-size, but in my eyes and fingers it’s a bit squashed compared to a regular external PC keyboard. The RGB backlight may be disabled appropriately, but can be set to four different lighting zones if required. The trackpad, meanwhile, is perfectly functional, and the larger size is welcome given the narrowness of previous models.

Bad image from a bad webcam.

I have less to say about the machine’s 720p camera, which is the very definition of fixable. The light is blooming, everything is uncomfortably blurry, and the overall effect is that of most 60s TV shows when they got the lens smeared with Vaseline for close-ups. If you’re looking to make a living from streaming or are a Zoom calling pro, buy an external device. Aside from the bad webcam, Lenovo gets accessories to offer a dedicated camera disconnect button because there was no room in the cover lacking space for its usual shutter.

References don’t tell the whole story, but the Legion 5 Pro comes close enough to the machines at a price tag of a few hundred dollars more. When playing demanding AAA games like Cyberpunk and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, I got between 50 and 60 frames per second with the settings adjusted appropriately. Naturally, you’ll lose a bit of it when you turn ray tracing on, but it can handle the tough work relatively well. The Legion 5 Pro has three predefined performance modes which can be set in the Vantage utility or cycled through when you press Fn + Q. A nice addition is that the power button will change color depending on which mode you are in. you find: Auto is a white glow, Muffler is a cool blue, and Performance is an angry red.

Using a machine like this for general productivity work is a bit like taking an F-150 to buy a box of cereal, but it’s more than you can get. After all, if all you’re doing is processing documents, writing essays, digging through spreadsheets, and using Slack, that’s more than enough. When transcoding a 28.2GB UHD H.265 video file to 1080p, Handbrake was able to process it at over 40fps, making it robust enough for even professional video editors halfway through.

The Legion 5 Pro uses a dual fan system that pushes hot air out of its chassis through a quartet of exhausts. Two vents in the back are complemented by one on each side, and if you’re not lucky enough to have a lot of room, beware. Leave your hand, mouse, gamepad, or drink next to one of these vents for too long and they will get uncomfortably hot. Playing Cyberpunk and Shadow of the Tomb Raider gave off enough heat that I wondered if I could make s’mores.

This problem is exacerbated by the aluminum underside of the chassis getting too hot to touch. After a few hours of playing, I took the machine to move it somewhere else and crap: I thought I took a baking sheet out of the oven. It’s not hot enough to burn you, but it’s not something you want to touch if you enjoy not being in pain.

It is also impossible to water down the noise this machine makes when the fans are running. This thing is loud – loud enough that you have to dial your speakers to drown it out or grab a pair of headphones to reclaim some of that immersion. This is a professional risk of gaming laptops, but it should be noted that this system is noisy.

Another check mark in the “not ideal” column is battery life, and despite packaging an 80 Wh battery, it won’t last long when pulled out of an outlet. Our standard battery drain test loops a video until the computer dies, with the brightness set to 65% and all battery saving technologies turned off. It managed to last four hours and 43 minutes using the built-in Radeon graphics, which are fine in the narrow sense of the term. Granted, while you can handle a few emails or light browsing while sitting on your couch, it’s not a device you can pull out of an outlet for a full working day without hassle.

One of the reasons the Legion 5 Pro is convincing despite some of its flaws is its price, which is something. Lenovo has managed to outperform many of its competition here, and it’s no wonder it’s only on sale intermittently at the moment. If you want an Alienware machine with similar specs (the romantically named M15 Ryzen Edition R5 gaming laptop), that’ll set you back $ 1,900. For that you will have a Ryzen R7 5800H (the same as here), an RTX 3070 with 8 GB of RAM (the same as here), 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD (the same as … you see idea).

If getting RTX 3070 graphics is a problem, you can go for the base Razer Blade 15 model with a 15.6-inch FHD display, 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10750H processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. You will, however, have to pay $ 2,000 for the privilege, which may be a non-starter for some. ASUS also offers the ROG Strix G15 – an all-AMD version we reviewed a few weeks ago – along with an RTX 3070, priced at $ 1,800. If you were looking for a machine in that roughly $ 1,500 range, you could get the $ 1,600 Razer Book, with a Core i7-1165G7 processor and Intel Iris Xe graphics. Alternatively, for $ 1,500, Acer’s Predator Triton 300 SE packs a Core i7-11375H processor and NVIDIA’s RTX 3060 GPU, which seems like a pretty reasonable deal all things considered.

Despite all the chaos that has been the current decade so far, we are witnessing a new dawn of AMD’s top tier.uh end chips are found in gaming laptops. This Ryzen 7 5800H can beat (select) Intel chips in a number of benchmarks, and you can expect it to show up in a number of other machines this year. And while wealthier buyers may be tempted by a much more expensive machine with RTX 3080 graphics, the 3070 here shouldn’t make you feel like a second-class citizen.

There is a lot to love about this machine, although the cuts made to bring the price down will certainly irritate some. Battery life is way below normal, thermals could be refined, and the webcam would look downgraded even on a five-year-old machine. But, if you are going to stick it on a desk, keep it constantly plugged into the mains and never do more than the weird Zoom, does any of that matter?

Terrible! Another scam I encountered on the Jersey Shore

It seems to happen a lot, the “scam” and YOU at home are the target. Predators are out there and they are looking for YOU and want to take advantage of YOU and your family.

This latest “scam” was just emailed to me and I wanted to share it with you so you don’t get cheated. Now what they are trying to do I don’t know because I did NOT do what they wanted. What they want is for people to click on their “LINK” which will then open Pandora’s Box. Maybe this leads you to a bogus business, maybe it corrupts your computer …. whatever “LINK” is a problem and you want to avoid it at all costs. If you receive this email, delete it!

Undercover ‘Deliverista’, 72nd Streep Station, Block Association Head ‘shunned’ by neighbors

Posted on June 28, 2021 at 8:46 am by Carol Tannenhauser

There was a disco night at Lincoln Center, which celebrates the pride. Photo by Toby Tenenbaum.

June 28, 2021 Weather: Partly cloudy, with a high of 92 degrees.

Our calendar has local and virtual events.

An Upper West Side experienced by itself the challenges of those who give us our daily bread. “I knew the delivery men were people who worked hard in a system that forces them to be fast if they have any hope of making a living… ”Richard Robbins wrote in Streetsblog. “But the current conflict has made me start thinking again about how economic necessity, rather than disregard of our traffic laws, determines the behavior of delivery people. When Manhattan Community Board 7 (he is a member of it) recently discussed the fundamental issue of bike deliveries being denied access to the washroom, I decided to join DoorDash to try to better understand the challenges facing delivery people.

The endless creativity of New Yorkers! Last week two found an ingenious way to wish Meryl Streep a happy 72nd birthday, TimeOut reported. New York-based artist Adrian Wilson (@plannedalism) and Matt Duncan (@graycement) added a “p” to signs inside the Upper West Side 72nd Street subway station early Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. reading “72nd Streep”. “

Joseph Bolanos, a well-known president of the block association UWS, was at the Capitol January 6, but did that deserve what happened to him – and his reputation – afterwards? “He was raided in February by the FBI’s Counterterrorism Task Force, handcuffed, exhibited and detained for three hours while his apartment was ransacked and all of his devices confiscated,” according to an opinion piece in the New York Post. “Four months later, he has not been charged and has not recovered his devices, but his neighbors are fleeing him, and he has had two strokes of stress. “It destroyed my reputation,” he says. ‘I am not a violent invader… I do not condone crime and violence on [Jan. 6] anything. ‘”

Residents of the Ellington Hotel, a shelter for women and children on 111st Street that is being closed (as we first reported here), expressed frustration at the lack of information on their upcoming move, reported City Limits . They were also hoping for better setups in future locations. “Privacy and boundaries were hard to come by in small units,” they agreed. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and kitchenette, but women share bunk beds with their children, including teenagers.

Fresh out of a feud with school administrators talk about pornography in health class, some parents at Columbia Grammar & Preparatory school, at 5 West 92nd Street, are now furious because they believe “critical race theory“Has been integrated into the program. They made a video to prove it, including “an email from school to parents announcing an” anti-racist “statement and audio of an alleged interview with a” diversity, equity and inclusion “(DCI) coach consulted by school Columbia Grammar & Prep is instituting DCI principal this week over parents’ objections – and is one of the last private schools in town to do so, a mother told the Post.

Graphic designer Milton Glaser, an Upper West Side, passed away on Saturday a year ago. “As New York emerges from a crisis, the logo he created in 1976, another difficult period for the city, is more relevant than ever. Here is a brief account of the birth of “I ❤️ NY”, according to the New York Times.

Finally, ignoring that UWS also serves as a movie set, a visitor had an encounter when her car broke down, reported in the Metropolitan Diary. “I decided to call a friend who could hopefully come and get me. I saw a green phone booth outside a bar on the corner of 78th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. As I picked up the receiver, I noticed that it was unusually large and heavy. It’s a very old phone, I thought to myself.

Offensive line rookie Kelvin Banks recaps official visits

Offensive lineman Kelvin Banks returned from his official visit to Texas A&M on Sunday, completing his official visit tour. All five trips saw him start in Baton Rouge with LSU, go very far west to Eugene to see Oregon, then come back closer to home to see the state of Oklahoma.

From there he completed his last two trips to Austin and College Station with each of the Texas schools. Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies had the last visit, and Ducks Digest caught up with Banks after the trip to get the latest on his recruiting.

Banks’ reviews were positive and I asked him what stood out the most.

“The people over there,” he said. “I know the facilities will always be there. For me the biggest part of recruiting is being with people I want to be with for four years. Being able to pick up and call people after my college career. “

“They have a lot of people behind the program, a lot of people committed there. They’ll have a good springboard with this class. The team they already have is great.”

The 6-4, 315-pounder spent time with all the staff, including offensive line coach Josh Henson.

“They have a great coaching staff. Last season was a good season. I can tell they are heading for the playoffs.

He spent a lot of time with Layden robinson, a second-year offensive lineman for the Aggies, and said he got along well with the players.

“I saw myself playing with them. They were pretty cool. I had a great time with Layden.”

The Texas Longhorns are also a major player in his recruiting and he referred to his official visit to Austin.

“I had a great time. Just like other schools, it’s a place where you can build yourself as a person – good contact with people, your experience. You know someone can find you a employment after graduation. “

Similar to Oregon and Texas A&M, Banks enjoys the full treatment of Texas staff and has several coaches in mind.

“Dating guys. Coach Sark communicates with me one-on-one, texting me all the time. Coach (Kyle) Flood and Coach (Jeff) Banks every day.”

Sarkisian’s “All gas no brakes” mantra caught Banks’ attention.

“The culture is changing right now,” he said of Texas. “It’s different from the former coach who was there. Sark and Flood are going to transform Texas. They could be a good contender in the national championship race.”

Banks also made a trip to Stillwater to check out the state of Oklahoma, a familiar sight since he was committed to the Cowboys until July of last year.

“It’s a great place. It fits my lifestyle,” he said. “It’s a low type place, there aren’t many people there. You can ride horses, go hunting and fishing.

The other SEC team in contention for Banks is the 2019 LSU Tigers National Champion. LSU parted ways with former offensive line coach James Cregg earlier this spring, but it doesn’t look like that will negatively impact the Tigers’ recruiting of Banks.

“I knew Coach (Brad) Davis from Arkansas. Coach (James) Cregg was a great coach – I liked him a lot. It wasn’t a drop in their recruiting for that.”

“There’s not much to say about LSU – it’s LSU. Coach O and the whole recruiting team, it’s a great place.”

And I concluded it by asking about Oregon, a visit Banks made a few weeks ago. Since then, the Ducks have not stopped communicating.

“Every day. (They) text me or call me. It’s good to see that they care about me and want me to be on their schedule.”

Mario Cristobal and his team have made Banks a priority, and he hasn’t been able to name a single coach he feels closest to.

“Really everyone. When I went there Coach Joe (Salave’a) treated me like I was one of his D line team. Coach Mirabal and the coach Cristobal were awesome. It was really good when I went there I had a blast everyone in this staff is wonderful just just nice. “

So what should we take away from all this?

Banks released a top eight in March consisting of LSU, Oregon, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

After his official tours have concluded, I think it looks like a three-team race between Oregon, Texas and Texas A&M. It’s going to be a hell of a battle to watch, but I think the Ducks are there.

Judging by the noise, Banks could be about to make a decision.

“I’m probably going to be in the top three, but that depends on how it all goes. I’m either going to be in the top three or make a decision.”

“I feel like I want to wait. It should be towards the end of July or towards the start of the season.”

A small additional note. I was fascinated by all of the unique photoshoots I’ve seen at schools across the country, so I asked Banks what her favorite photoshoot was.

“The favorite was probably Oregon, Texas A&M and Texas.”

NJ endorses plan to stop rental eviction tsunami

A plan has been approved by New Jersey lawmakers to deal with the state’s tenant-owner housing crisis caused by the COVID pandemic.

After the declaration of the health emergency in March 2020, more than a million New Jersey residents were left unemployed and Governor Phil Murphy issued an executive order prohibiting landlords from evicting tenants for non-payment of rent .

But with the health emergency sent to expire early next month, members of the state Assembly and Senate have approved legislation, A5685 and S3691, which would end the moratorium on evictions while protecting tenants and providing tenants and small landlords with hundreds of millions of dollars in financial assistance.

The legislation that has been approved protects low-, moderate- and middle-income households from eviction for non-payment or late payment of rent until the end of August 2021. For some tenants, eviction protection would last until the end of August 2021. For some tenants, eviction protection would last until the end of August 2021. the end of this year.

David Brogan, executive director of the New Jersey Apartments Association, said the legislation stipulated that the amount of rent owed to a landlord during the period covered would be considered a civil debt and could be sued as a pecuniary judgment in a court of law. court.

“And what that means is that debt cannot be the basis for eviction,” he said. “So that in itself should stop the potential deportation tsunami that I think everyone was concerned about.”

He said the legislation also provides additional funding for rent assistance, which means that in total “you’re talking about $ 1.1 billion to help tenants get back on their feet, ideally as they go. as the rental assistance rolls out, they can get back to normal.

Staci Berger, president and CEO of the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey, said the legislation represents a fair and balanced compromise.

“This is a thoughtful and well thought out approach to lifting the moratorium on evictions and ensuring that tenants and small landlords have the resources they need to get through the end of the pandemic,” she said. .

She said the eviction is a huge threat and has a disproportionate impact on minority families.

The law requires that payments made by a tenant after the end of the coverage period be credited to the current month’s rental obligation first, and then any balance to be credited against any arrears owed by the tenant.

Legislation approved by lawmakers directs the administrative director of courts to provide information on tenant protections, rental assistance programs, and COVID-19 income and impact certificates needed to get help at all residential tenant who is party to a dispute between landlord and tenant for non-payment. of rent.

A companion measure also approved, A5905, establishes the Rental Navigation Assistance Program at the Ministry of Community Affairs.

It will prevent residential evictions due to non-payment and the usual late payment of rent during the pandemic.

If a residential tenant missed one or more rent payments during the COVID crisis, the bill will allow that tenant or their landlord to apply for rent assistance through the program.

Alternatives to Payday Loans in Maryland

As one of the easiest methods to get a quick cash advance, payday loans are widely offered to the public. The exceptions are the states where specific regulations regarding these loans are applied.

Such a situation is currently inconvenient for the residents of Maryland. Yet with some quality advice from Cash Loans Near Me in Ohio, you can make the most of the options available. We will walk you through the payday loan alternatives available in the state of Maryland.

In addition, we do our best to guide you through all the alternatives so that you have an easier time getting loans. If you live in Maryland, we’ve got some great news for you; although payday loans are prohibited, loan interest rates are low.

So, one of the solutions on payday loan alternatives in Maryland should easily cover your loan needs!

Types of Payday Loan Alternatives in Maryland

As stated by Maryland law, advance lenders must be approved by the Financial Regulation Commissioner. Thus, all existing service providers have to accept the extremely low interest rates.

Perhaps it may even be of benefit to the public in Maryland that advance loans are so carefully regulated. Without further ado, let us now focus on the different types of payday loan alternatives available in Maryland.

Short term loan alternative

A short term loan from Maryland financial institutions is among the closest things to payday loans to find. Once in the government program, the user can take advantage of the advanced loan schemes established in Maryland.

Even payment extensions can be put in place in coordination with a financial expert. It is quite easy for you to find short term loans in Maryland which differ from payday loan services.

Prepaid debit card loans

Another aspect that may be of interest to you in terms of payday loan alternatives is the prepaid card loan. In essence, you can set up specific rules with the lender regarding the means of deposit on the prepaid card. The funds received are freely usable thanks to a personal PIN code given to the user.

However, while this option is quite effective, it still borders on payday loan services. So be careful with this type of offer in Maryland.

Installment Loans in Maryland

One of the easiest and most legitimate means of financial loans in Maryland is the installment loan. As much as these loans are subject to certain rules, their return mechanism makes them attractive for any of the payday loan alternatives.

The lender will agree with you based on the proposed period for the return of funds. In some cases even extensions are possible, but beware of increased interest rates in such cases.

Maryland Government Programs

As much as this option is not part of the conventional payday loan alternatives, it can be very effective. Namely, residents of Maryland can participate in various government programs and avoid needing a payday loan.

Government training programs can help you start your business, while support programs overlap. Family support is one of the main government programs and involves helping low income families.

This form of short term loan is much more convenient to use than traditional payday loans with high interest rates.

Essentially, the recommended payday loan alternatives listed are not that different from the payday loan itself. Some of the methods also include the interest rates offered by the government, but with lower terms.

Banning payday loans may be a good thing in this case as the government works closely with the public on more affordable loans.

How To Stop Relying On Payday Loans

How payday loans work

Say you need cash quickly and are thinking about taking out a personal loan.

Your electricity has been cut for non-payment or your car has blown a joint. Your savings account is empty and you think your credit rating is too low to qualify for a bank loan. You won’t get paid for 10 days and decide to take out a payday loan to help you out.

If you live in a state that allows payday lenders, you can visit a physical location or go online. Payday lenders make it easy for you. All you need is your ID, a pay stub (or other proof of employment), and a post-dated check. You tell the lender how much money you want, write a check that covers the loan and the fees, and post-date the check by two weeks.

If, like most borrowers, you are unable to repay the loan when it is due, you may need to take out another payday loan to cover the first one. Every time you take out a new loan, interest charges and fees add up, making it harder to get out of debt. Worse yet, a personal loan study by The Ascent found that you could end up paying 400% or more in interest and fees. To put this in context, the average credit card interest rate is around 15%.

Suppose you borrow $ 500 for 14 days and the APR reaches 400%. On day 14, when the loan is due to be repaid, you owe the original $ 500 plus $ 77 in interest. Quite often people cannot repay the full $ 577 and are forced to take out another payday loan. You would then start paying interest on the interest.

If you currently owe money on a payday loan, this situation will be all too familiar to you. As difficult as it may sound, the sooner you can break the cycle, the better. Here are four steps that might help:

1. Talk to a nonprofit credit counseling agency

Credit counselors won’t lend you money, but they will help you take control of your personal finances by making a plan to pay off debt, cut unnecessary spending, and get the most out of your money. Look for a certified advisor, check their qualifications, and make sure you understand the costs involved. Many reputable nonprofit credit counseling organizations offer free help.

2. Consider payday loan alternatives

There are a number of payday loan alternatives that you can try.

A personal loan from a reputable lender could help you pay off the payday loan in full. Don’t assume that you can’t get a short-term loan from a bank or credit union just because your credit is good or bad.

Opt for a personal loan with guarantee. This is a type of secured loan that requires you to provide something of value that the lender can take if you don’t pay off the loan, like your car title – but be aware that if you fall behind payments, you risk losing your transport.

Using your car as collateral through a reputable financial institution should not be confused with “title loans” available from predatory lenders. Title loans are no better than payday loans and will cost you just as much.

3. Check with churches and community organizations

There are a number of charities, including churches and community groups, that could help you get back on your feet. Your state may also have hardship programs available. Ask for as much help as you can and invest the extra money in this payday loan.

For example, you can do your grocery shopping in a pantry or accept help paying your electric bill. You can then use your grocery and electricity money to pay off the high interest loan.

4. Consider a cash advance

This might be the only time in your life when someone suggested that you take out a cash advance with a credit card. If you’re in a real rush, it’s better to pay 30% APR on a cash advance than 400% APR on a payday loan. Cash advances usually come with a fee and start earning interest immediately, so you’ll still need to pay them back as quickly as possible. The last thing you want is to find yourself stuck in a cycle of high interest credit card debt.

Whichever way you choose to repay the payday lender, you can escape. And when you do, you’ll need to make a plan to make sure it doesn’t happen again. It can mean taking a sideways turn that keeps you on top of your bills. This may involve ruthlessly reducing all expenses, except necessary expenses, from your monthly budget until you have an emergency fund that will get you through a crisis. You might be able to share the expenses by taking a roommate, use public transportation to sell your car, or find cheaper accommodation.

Whichever route you choose, you can be sure that it is better to take out another payday loan. Like casinos, payday lenders always win, but only if you gamble.

9 payday loan alternatives to save you exorbitant fees – Forbes Advisor

Editorial Note: We earn a commission on partner links on Forbes Advisor. Commissions do not affect the opinions or ratings of our editors.

If you need quick cash to cover an emergency or basic living expenses, you might be tempted to take out a payday loan.

These loans are often easy to obtain – some lenders will not even check your credit score. However, due to their exorbitant fees, which can be equivalent to annual percentage rates (APRs) of up to 400%, you should avoid this type of loan. You should only use it as a last resort.

Consider one of the nine payday loan alternatives below to keep more of your hard-earned money.

1. Apply for an alternative payday loan

Some federal credit unions offer alternative payday loans, which are loans designed to provide a less expensive alternative to payday loans. With this option, you can borrow up to $ 2,000 and the loan term ranges from one to 12 months. The maximum interest rate is 28%, which is much better than what you typically see on a payday loan.

For example, here is an overview of the maximum percentage rate allowed for payday loans by state based on a $ 100 loan over 14 days.

To be eligible for an alternative payday loan, you must be a member of a federal credit union who offers this type of loan.

2. Borrow from a credit union

Unlike traditional banks, credit unions are non-profit institutions owned by their members. For this reason, you can find cheaper rates at a credit union for personal loans from credit unions and other types of loans. Additionally, credit unions generally have less stringent eligibility requirements than traditional banks, so you might be eligible to borrow money with less than stellar credit.

Like an alternative payday loan, this option requires that you be a member of a credit union.

3. Apply for a bad credit loan

If your credit score is within the fair credit score range (580 to 669), according to the FICO credit score model, you may be eligible for a bad credit loan. Lenders who offer bad loans can approve applicants with a credit score of less than 580. To qualify for a loan with a credit score below 580, consider using a co-borrower or co-signer, if the lender allows it.

In addition to your credit score, lenders will base your eligibility on other factors, such as your income and debt-to-income ratio (DTI). While you probably don’t get the best interest rate with a fair credit score, lenders typically have a peak interest rate in the mid-1930s. While this rate is high, it is much lower than that. that you would get with a payday loan.

Before applying, prequalify with multiple lenders, if possible, to get an idea of the interest rate and terms of your loan before you apply. Be prepared to provide personal information, such as your income, Social Security Number (SSN), and date of birth when you complete the official application process.

4. Form a loan circle

To help pay for future unforeseen expenses, consider forming a circle of lenders. A circle of lenders is where a group of people set aside a certain amount of money each month and pool it. Depending on the loan agreement, one member can borrow the full amount one month, while another may borrow the full amount later.

You can join an online loan circle or start a loan circle with family and friends. Some online credit clubs report member payments to all three credit bureaus, which can improve your credit score.

5. Borrow from friends and family

Another way to avoid the high interest rates and fees of payday loans is to apply for a family loan from family members or to borrow money from friends. It can also be easier to get the money you need since you don’t have to go through the formal application process.

Once the family member or friend agrees, you need to create a loan agreement, which should include the repayment terms and the interest rate (if applicable). An important note: repay the loan on time to maintain a healthy relationship with the family member.

6. Get help with invoices through payment plans

If you’re having trouble paying your bills, ask the supplier if you can set up a payment plan. This way, you can avoid having to pay the bill all at once. Some lenders may have a forbearance or deferment program in place to help you get through tough times.

With this option, keep in mind that you will most likely have to pay interest and fees. However, the interest and additional fees may be worth paying if they save you from taking out a payday loan.

7. Create alternative ways to earn money

Increasing your income can save you from taking out a personal loan. While making more money is easier said than done, there are plenty of opportunities both online and offline. Some online opportunities include freelance writing, taking surveys, and beta testing of apps and websites. Offline opportunities include driving for DoorDash or Uber, selling used items at a garage sale, and working part-time alongside.

8. Use a credit card responsibly

Another way to avoid the interest charges and high fees of a payday loan is to use a credit card responsibly. This means that you only use your credit card for purchases that you can afford to pay off on or before the due date. Paying your balance in full on or before the due date can help you avoid interest charges, late charges, and possible damage to your credit score altogether.

Additionally, if your credit score is 700 or higher, you may be eligible for a 0% APR rate credit card. This type of card comes with an interest-free promotional period of up to 21 months. As long as you pay off the balance owed before the promotional period expires, you can avoid interest. Thereafter, the remaining balance will accumulate interest charges until it is fully repaid.

9. Apply for financial assistance programs

Depending on how much you earn, you may be eligible for financial aid programs in your area. Some programs may offer rent assistance, while others can help pay for food and other expenses. To find these programs, consider contacting your local library or chamber of commerce.

Final result

If you want to avoid the skyrocketing costs with a traditional payday loan, choose another financing option from this list. Compare each option and assess which one is best for your specific situation. The most profitable option you are eligible for is probably the one that is right for you.

8 Benefits of Payday Loans Online Brand voice

Online payday loans are a great solution to unannounced financial problems. They offer you an easy way out when your paycheck was delayed or ran out before you were done paying your bills. Payday loans online are designed for emergencies and here is why you should consider them when you are in a business. strained financial situation.

  1. Fast processing

Traditional loans take a considerable amount of time to process and verify. However, this is not the case with online payday loans. The most important advantage of payday loans is that it takes less than a day to get the borrowed money out of your account. Remember, they are designed for emergencies and therefore convey a sense of urgency. The time it takes to process a payday loan varies from company to company and is a factor you should consider when choosing a payday loan lender – it can be instant, in a matter of hours, or a few hours. daytime.

  1. Easy to qualify

Unlike traditional loans which have strict requirements, online payday loans in Ontario have lenient qualifying conditions. Most loan traders require a driver’s license as proof of residency, a monthly income guarantee, and a bank account. Some might ask for more details about your job and your debt.

  1. You set your limits

Online payday companies use your monthly income to define your loan limits. If you have a large monthly payment, you can borrow more. This can appear to be a disadvantage if you have a small monthly income. However, aligning your loan with your monthly payments ensures that you won’t have a hard time paying off the loan debt.

  1. You can use the loan on anything.

Most traditional loans come with limitations on how you can use your borrowed money. Fortunately, online payday loans give you the freedom to spend your money however you see fit. For example, if you get a traditional bridging loan, you can only use it to buy or sell a property. With payday loans, your lender has no authority to determine how the borrowed money is spent.

  1. Quick credit card verification

A bad credit rating almost everywhere denies you the option of getting a traditional loan. This is not the case with payday loans. Payday loans have minimum requirements that exclude credit checks in most businesses. Whenever a business asks for credit checks, they offer you the opportunity to negotiate a larger amount.

  1. The law protects you.

Many loan seekers fear falling in love with a company that charges exorbitant interest. Payday loans are governed by different laws in Canada and grant constitutionally set interest rate limits.

  1. The process is automatic.

Once you have been authorized to receive a loan, the money will automatically be debited from your account. On payday, the lender will automatically deduct a similar amount plus interest from your account.

  1. It’s confidential

Providing payday loan companies with your bank details and credentials can seem terrifying. However, these companies are permitted by law not to share your details with third party agencies.

End note

Predatory payday loan companies are a thing of the past, as appropriate legislation has been put in place to facilitate safe and secure transactions and business processes. Nonetheless, it is prudent to choose reputable lenders with a proven track record in providing legitimate services to clients and fair interest rates.

What is a payday loan?

A payday loan is a short term unsecured loan that usually comes with a high rate of interest. Most payday loans come in small amounts, usually $ 500 or less.

With a traditional loan, you get a lump sum, then you start paying back over a set period of time – anywhere from a few months to a few years – with a “reasonable” interest rate added. With a payday loan, the full amount is due at one time, including interest and fees. In most cases, you will need to write a post-dated check for the full amount owed – the loan, plus interest and fees – or authorize your lender to debit the money from your bank account on that date.

The interest rates of payday loans are much higher than those of traditional loans. A standard APR for a personal loan ranges from 6% to 36%, but lenders offering payday loans may charge annual rates of 100% or more, and some have exceeded 1,000% depending on a survey by ProPublica in 2013. That said, some states have limits on interest and fees – and in some states, payday loans are banned completely.

It should also be noted that payday lenders tend to target people who live in areas with high poverty rates and low income levels, as well as minorities and economically disadvantaged groups, who have traditionally had more difficulty in qualifying for conventional loans, according to a study by the St. Louis Fed.

Why You Should Avoid Payday Loans

There are twice as many payday lenders than McDonald’s restaurants in the United States – and borrowing money from any of them is about as easy as ordering a burger and fries. Getting approved is relatively easy: many payday lenders don’t even want to check your credit, therefore a tarnished credit history will not be a factor.

This is a benefit for people with poor or limited credit history. But high interest rates and strict repayment terms lock many into the payday lending trap where they are forced to take out new loans just to pay off existing loans.

If you don’t have enough cash to pay off your loan when it falls due, the lender can automatically trigger a withdrawal from your bank account. And if you don’t have enough money in your bank account to cover the costs, you could face an additional “insufficient funds” penalty. You may also be subject to penalties from the lender if they do not receive your money on time.

If your state allows payday lenders, you might see them in some parts of your city and not in others. For example, there might be more where poverty rates are high and income levels are low. These types of lenders tend to target minority groups as well as those with very low credit scores who are not otherwise eligible for traditional loans.

Alternatives to a payday loan

If you are in dire need of cash to cover basic expenses, buy food, or pay off high-interest debt, there are other options to consider. Here are just a few:

Online lenders

There are many personal loans available online at more reasonable rates of interest. Even if your credit is below average, some lenders may look over your credit score when assessing your eligibility.

  • OneMain Financial has no minimum credit score requirement and you can borrow as little as $ 1,500, depending on where you live. APRs range from 18% to 35.99% and terms are two to five years. They also have a prequalification option to see if you are eligible without applying first.
  • Before loans start at around $ 2,000 and your credit score must be at least 580 to qualify. APRs range from 9.95% to 35.99% and repayment terms range from two to five years.
  • Reached takes your educational background and experience into consideration when assessing your eligibility. You can borrow as little as $ 1,000 and get your money back within a day of approval.

These lenders tend to have higher than normal interest rates compared to other personal lenders. However, they are all much cheaper than payday lenders.

Credit unions

If you have an account with a local credit union, you may find it easier to qualify for a personal loan. Most credit union interest rates are capped at around 18%, even for those with low credit ratings.

Many credit unions also offer payday loan alternatives – offering small loans with short repayment terms ranging from one to six months. Many credit unions require you to join before you borrow, but are willing to work with you if you don’t have good credit.

Recruit a co-signer

If you can’t get a loan from an online lender or credit union, you can get a friend or family member to co-sign a loan. The co-signer must have decent credit; it’s their credit score and history that will help you move on to eligibility. Keep in mind that if you are in arrears with your payment, not only your credit history to suffer; the same will apply to your co-signer.
